Training programmesThe taught part of the programme consists of modules taught normally at weekends. Students select modules relevant to their professional interests. Students who attend sufficient modules and submit the required coursework may be considered for the following:
Hypnosis Unit UK Certificate (Level One)This training provides students with sufficient knowledge and basic skills to begin to use hypnosis professionally. Certificates will state the programme of study e.g. ‘Certificate in Hypnosis Applied to Medicine’ Students opting for this course are likely to intend to continue with the Diploma Programme at a later stage. Students attend F01, F02 and one specialist module and complete coursework and supervision as specified later in this prospectus. Total learning hours: 400 (includes 48 taught hours, supervision, written assignments and private reading)
Hypnosis Unit UK Certificate (Level Two)This training provides students with sufficient skills and knowledge to work with some expertise in a particular area. Certificates will state the focus of training, e.g. ‘Certificate in Hypnosis Applied to Pain Management’ or ’Certificate in Hypnosis Applied to Stress Management’ etc., according to the specialist modules selected. Students opting for this course wish to focus on using hypnosis in a circumscribed area, relating their training to a particular professional interest / purpose. Students attend F01, F02 and two specialist modules, both of which relate to the focus of study and complete coursework and supervision as specified later in this prospectus. Total learning hours: 500 (includes 60 taught hours, supervision, written assignments and private reading)
Hypnosis Unit UK DiplomaThis training enables students to become confident effective, well-informed practitioners in the application of hypnosis more broadly to the profession within which they work. The title of the Diploma will state professional area in which it has been gained e.g. Diploma in Hypnosis Applied to Dentistry. Students attend F01, F02 and a total of 8 more days training selected from one or two day specialist modules and complete coursework and supervision as specified later in this prospectus. Students will have the flexibility to design a programme of study that meets their professional needs. Total learning hours: 700 (includes 84 taught hours, supervision, written assignments and private reading)
Hypnosis Unit UK Advanced DiplomaStudents who have successfully completed either the Hypnosis Unit UK Diploma OR the UCL Diploma can be considered for the award of the HUUK Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis in recognition of further study in hypnosis as well as their clinical expertise. It is not possible to be granted APL for training undertaken with any other organisation with the exception of the University of Sheffield Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis. The title of the Diploma will reflect the programme of study e.g. ‘Advanced Diploma in Hypnosis Applied to Medicine’. Students are required to attend 4 days of Hypnosis Unit UK CPD (selected as appropriate from Sections A and / or B) and complete a portfolio of work of a publishable standard on a topic relevant to their professional practice. Total learning hours: 700 (includes 24 taught hours, writing up the portfolio, portfolio supervision, private reading and any other work related to the portfolio)
This should be 12,000 words in total and can be subdivided in up to 3 parts (each of no less than 3,000 words). The portfolio might, for example, consist of a critical review of the literature and two clinical case studies.
Students should be conversant with the necessary skills to be able to save their coursework on their computers as pdf files and to send these as email attachments to Hypnosis Unit UK’s email address. On successful completion of the portfolio the student will receive a statement of competence signed by the course directors and moderators, and a certificate indicating the level of training (ie Advanced Diploma). All CPD attendance for the Advanced Diploma must be completed in one year. Students should submit the complete portfolio by July 31st 2009 for moderation in September 2008. Failure to meet this deadline may result in the student’s portfolio not being presented for moderation until the following year. A maximum of two years is allowed for completion of the portfolio. Fees: In addition to fees for the CPD training days (as indicated alongside course descriptions) a fee of £300.00* is paid to cover assessment and portfolio supervision (total Advanced Diploma fee: £780.00). * To be paid following the Directors’ approval of the students portfolio proposal. Certificate to Diploma top-up for UCL / HUUK Certificate graduatesStudents who have graduated with a Certificate in one of the UCL or HUUK Hypnosis Studies programmes can attend 6 further days training (selected from specialist modules and CPD modules) and complete additional assignments, in order to be considered for the award of the HUUK Diploma. Please note: a) Not all CPD courses from Section A are available to certificate graduates. b) Section B courses are restricted to particular professional groups please check that you are eligible for the course you are interested in applying for. In addition to the 6 further days of attendance students will need to complete a portfolio as follows:
Portfolios are presented for moderation in September 2008. Students should be conversant with the necessary skills to be able to save their coursework on their computers as pdf files and to send these as email attachments to Hypnosis Unit UK’s email address. On successful completion of the portfolio the student will receive a statement of competence signed by the course directors and moderators, and a certificate indicating the level of training (i.e. Diploma), students showing exceptional ability may be awarded a distinction. Students are able to retain their UCL Certificate in addition to the HUUK Diploma. Students should complete their coursework as soon as possible following the module to which it relates and submit the complete portfolio by July 31st. Failure to meet this deadline may result in the student’s portfolio not being presented for moderation until the following year. Fees: In addition to fees for the 6 CPD training days (£165.00 per day, as indicated alongside course descriptions) students will need to pay for 3 hours of supervision. All supervisors approved by the course organisers have agreed to offer supervision to Hypnosis Unit UK students at no more than £40.00 per hour. Supervision fees are paid direct to the supervisor. Students can request extra sessions with the supervisor but supervisions additional to the course requirement may be charged at a higher rate.
